How a Lot of you Houzz users Aren’t from New York City or San Francisco? I put together a small round up of townhouse Houzz Tours we have showcased, and as someone who has spent all my life in Ohio, Virginia, and Georgia, it struck me as fabulous as those houses were, I was missing illustrations from all those nations between the two coasts.
On that note, I’m hoping this ideabook will put a stop to thinking of anyplace else as flyover land. Not only are those cities filled with great design and imagination, dream houses are much more viable due to lower property costs. Here are five favorites.
1. Minneapolis. Has anyone else noticed how sexy this town is? It’s the home of my (as well as the first woman’s) favorite big-box store’s headquarters, home of Blu Dot, chock full of starchitecture, and naturally, home foundation for this purple miracle Prince. This stunning loft is more proof of Minneapolis’s skyrocketing cool factor.
The designer, Andrew Flesher, added that this gridded bookshelf to split the wide-open loft space.
Crisp white walls, a mixture of antiques, fresh furnishings and one of a kind light fixtures show off Flesher’s talent for curating and building a variety of fashions.

2. Denver. The word “attic” was tossed around a lot in real estate for the last decade or so, as brand new high-rises filled with “attic apartments” pop up. However, a genuine loft is in a repurposed building like this brick beauty.
Vintage Renewal
Etsy seller Jeanne Connolly lives in this attic, which is filled with her own repurposed classic creations. The result is a vibrantly.

This gallery wall reveals off Connolly’s eye for art and how to make a pleasing composition. Her home shows us how creativity thrives a mile above sea level.

3. Virginia. Lawyer-turned-decorator Nicole Lanteri and her husband found the attic of their fantasies in Arlington.

Lanteri blends antique finds and bargains from CB2 and Urban Outfitters to make eye-popping combinations of texture and colours.

4. Atlanta. We first met Houzz Contributor Brian Patrick Flynn, a.k.a. Decor Demon, when he showed us his attic in the city of Atlanta. Flynn has since moved to a home, but he made the most of the loft experience.

Flynn used an “F” from a T.G.I. Friday’s sign, and also a blown-up picture of his parents as artwork that matched the scale of the distance.

Flynn also rallied the residents to come together and make the most of their formerly neglected roofdeck.

5. Cincinnati. Mark Twain once said, “After the end of the world comes, I want to be in Cincinnati because it’s always twenty years behind the times.”
Not fair, not fair! The Queen City is buzzing with innovative energy and can be a well-kept secret. We took a tour of picture artist Maya Drozdz’s attic before her Seed Bombs business blew up.

Located objects can be a great addition to attic decor. Drozdz and her spouse Michael Stout use bottles they find around their historic area, Over the Rhine, as decor.

20 years behind? Drozdz had adopted grey walls long before it turned into such a white-hot trend. As for the rest of the town, it has lots of buildings of its own, from fabulous examples of Art Deco to some severe recent starchitecture.
With just about every top architect represented by the University of Cincinnati campus, down the mountain through downtown and across the river to Covington, Kentucky. Take that, Twain!
So Houzzers, where are you? And exactly what do you adore about design in town? Please talk with us!
