The way to Install Springs On Attic Staircases

A retractable attic staircase offers a far safer way to get in and out of your attic than using a stepladder. Springs keep the attic staircase closed when not being used. When the springs weaken or break, the staircase won’t stay closed correctly. It takes two people to modify the springs, but you and your helper can install the springs in minutes with a few basic hand tools.

Pull down the attic staircase and climb into the attic. Have a link retract the staircase and wait from the closed position.

Loosen the locking nut at the end of one of the two springs utilizing an adjustable canopy. Then slide the connector arm the bolt off, easing pressure on the spring.

Slide the hook end of the spring from the connector arm, making note of the hole where the hook was connected. Remove the opposite end of the spring from the mounting bracket.

Insert one hooked finish of a brand new ladder spring in the mounting bracket. Next, connect the opposite end into its hole in the connector arm, with the point of the hook facing away from the ladder. Pull the connector arm forwards and slide the hole in the end of the arm over the bolt. Tighten the locking nut to fasten the connector arm.

Repeat the procedure to replace the next spring.
