Growing a indoor garden requires water, warmth and light. Many houseplants originated in the tropics or subtropics and endure a humidity level as low as 40 or 50 percent. However, with central heating and air conditioning, the average home’s humidity level hovers around 10 to 20 percent. Maintaining a sufficient level of moisture in the air prevents brown tips on your plants and leaf drop. The humidity level in your indoor garden is essential to keep its foliage and encourage flowering plants to blossom.
Put a glass or plastic tray in the center of your indoor garden. Fill the tray with pebbles or marbles. Add water to the tray till the water level is just under the top of their marbles.
Put your potted plants. Monitor the water level, refilling the tray evaporates, raising the humidity.
Add more plants that are potted, put them. As water evaporates from the ground, it will also increase the humidity.
Put a humidifier close to your indoor garden. A cool mist humidifier adds moisture to the air, suitable such as Christmas cactus and cymbidium orchids. A mist humidifier adds moisture in addition to warmth to the air, if your indoor garden features plants such as ferns, palm trees or phalaenopsis orchids.
Consider placing your indoor garden within aquarium or a small enclosure. Similar to an terrarium, the backyard keeps a humidity within the region that is enclosed.
